Phuket Wake Park Guide: Wakeboarding in Phuket (2026)

Phuket Wake Park Guide: Wakeboarding in Phuket (2026)

Phuket has two operating cable wake parks: Phuket Wake Park in Kathu, in the middle of the island near Patong, and Sport Wake Park in Mai Khao, just north of the airport. Phuket Wake Park is the better-documented choice for a full-size cable with a beginner line. Sport Wake Park suits riders who want to stay right next to the airport and the quiet northern beaches. Both have rooms on site.

A third park, Anthem Wakepark near Bang Tao, closed permanently in 2020, so ignore older blog posts that still list it.

Phuket Wake Park (Kathu)

Phuket Wake Park is the island's best-known cable park and hosted the 2022 Singha Thailand Cable Championships. It sits on Vichitsongkram Road in Kathu, between Patong and Phuket Town.

Cable and obstacles

The main cable is a full-size loop of roughly 680-700 m running counter-clockwise on a freshwater lake about 2 m deep, at around 26-30 km/h. The park has 11-12 obstacles, including kickers, rails, a funbox and an A-frame. Beginners don't go straight onto the main cable: there's a separate System 2.0 training cable, and kneeboards are available for first rides. Water skiing is also offered. See Wakeboarding for Beginners in Thailand: First-Timer Guide if it's your first time.

Prices

Published price lists (as of October 2026, check with the park):

  • Adult 1 hour: 750 THB
  • Adult 2 hours: 950 THB
  • Adult 4 hours: 1,400 THB
  • Adult all day: 1,600 THB
  • Child 1-2 hours / 4 hours / all day: 450 / 700 / 800 THB

Adult prices include board, vest and helmet. Some listings quote lower "from" prices, so ask about current deals when you book. The park runs a wake school, but we couldn't find a published lesson price. Contact the park for coaching rates. For other parks' prices, see Wakeboarding Price Thailand 2026: Wake Park Prices Compared.

Opening hours

Sources disagree. Some list 07:30-21:00 Tuesday to Sunday with a 10:00 start on Mondays, while others list 09:00-18:00 or 09:00-18:30. Check the park's website or Facebook page on the day you plan to go, especially if you want an early or evening session.

Facilities and accommodation

Phuket Wake Park has a 28-room on-site hotel (Phuket Wake Park Apartments), plus a restaurant, pro shop, gym, pool and free parking. Rental gear and coaching are available.

Nearby

Approximate distances from the park:

  • Kathu Waterfall: about 4 km (10 min)
  • Patong Beach: about 8 km (20 min)
  • Phuket Old Town: about 10 km (20 min)
  • Kamala Beach: about 13 km (20 min)
  • Wat Chalong: about 13 km (25 min)
  • Big Buddha Phuket: about 17 km (35 min)

Sport Wake Park (Mai Khao)

Sport Wake Park is the same park that used to be called International Wake Park (IWP). If you see "IWP Phuket" or "IWP Sports Club", it's the same address on Soi Mo Yiam in Mai Khao and the same Facebook page.

Cable: what's actually running?

Historically, IWP had a five-tower full-size cable, two straight-line 2.0 cables on a beginner lake, and an advanced obstacle lake with kickers, a funbox, a box and a rail. Current directory listings describe only a 2-tower 2.0 system, so it's unclear whether the full-size cable still runs. The 2.0 cable is great for beginners and for practising specific tricks. If you specifically want to ride a full-size loop, message the park before you go. A FlowRider surf simulator was also part of the resort, but whether it's running in 2026 is unconfirmed.

Prices and hours

We couldn't confirm Sport Wake Park's current prices: the figures in circulation vary widely and may be out of date. Opening hours are also listed differently across sources (09:00-18:00, 09:30-18:30, or until 21:00). Contact the park directly through its website, Facebook or Instagram for today's rates and hours.

One more caution: the resort was advertised for rent or sale in late 2024, so ownership or operations could change. Confirm before you build a trip around it.

Facilities and accommodation

The resort has a surf house with around 40 single rooms and two pool villas, plus a restaurant, bar, gym, pro shop and free parking. Besides wakeboarding there's SUP and kayaking on mangrove routes.

Nearby

Approximate distances from the park:

  • Phuket International Airport (HKT): about 5 km (8 min)
  • Mai Khao Beach (plane spotting): about 4 km (8 min)
  • Splash Jungle Water Park: about 6 km (10 min)
  • Sirinat National Park / Nai Yang Beach: about 8 km (15 min)
  • Sarasin Bridge: about 12 km (15 min)
  • Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary (Bang Pae Waterfall): about 22 km (30 min)
  • Phuket Wake Park, Kathu: about 21 km (35 min)

Which Phuket wake park should you choose?

  • First-timers staying in Patong, Kata, Karon or Phuket Town: Phuket Wake Park. It's central, has a dedicated training cable, and the full-size cable is there when you're ready.
  • Arriving or departing the same day, or staying in Mai Khao or Nai Yang: Sport Wake Park is minutes from the terminal, so a session fits well around a flight. Confirm it's open first.
  • Experienced riders after a full-size loop and obstacles: Phuket Wake Park is the safer bet until Sport Wake Park confirms its main cable.

Rainy-season tip

From roughly May to October, the southwest monsoon often brings rough seas and red flags to Phuket's west-coast beaches. A freshwater cable lake isn't affected by sea swell, which makes the wake parks a popular plan B on days when swimming at the beach isn't safe. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in this season, so ride in the morning when possible, and get out of the water immediately if there's thunder or lightning.

How to get there

  • Taxi or ride-hailing: the easiest option. Bolt and Grab both operate in Phuket. From Patong, Phuket Wake Park is about 20 minutes over the hill. From the airport, Sport Wake Park is a short ride.
  • Scooter or rental car: both parks have free parking. If you're not experienced on a scooter, the hill roads around Patong are a hard place to learn.
  • Combine it with sightseeing: pair Phuket Wake Park with Kathu Waterfall or Old Town, or Sport Wake Park with a plane-spotting stop at Mai Khao Beach.
